Overview
Velocity is a Shopify app that treats SEO as a cockpit, not a report. It pulls a store’s performance, content and audit data into one place, ranks every fix by impact, and — once you approve it — makes the change for you, reversibly. It’s an in-house product we’re building against a real store and productising for others.
The challenge
Store owners drown in SEO audits: hundreds of issues, no sense of what matters, and every fix means digging through the admin. The tools that surface the problems almost never fix them — you’re left with a to-do list and no time.
The approach
We built Velocity to close the gap between "here’s what’s wrong" and "it’s done". It unifies the signals that actually move rankings and speed, scores each fix by impact against effort and risk, and lets an owner approve a fix and have the app apply it — with a snapshot taken first so anything can be undone.
Velocity is an embedded Shopify app built on Remix and React with Shopify Polaris and App Bridge, in TypeScript, with Prisma over SQLite for its findings store.
It pulls from four sources into one backlog: the Shopify Admin GraphQL API (image alt-text and dimension issues, product and collection SEO-meta gaps), Google PageSpeed / CrUX (Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, CLS), and the Ahrefs Site Audit and Site Explorer APIs (technical-SEO issues, Domain Rating, keywords and traffic for the dashboard scorecard).
Every finding is ranked by a deterministic impact score — worst-first — so the highest-leverage fixes rise to the top. An AI advisor (via OpenRouter) explains each one in plain English and, where it’s fixable, drafts the exact change: alt text, or an SEO title and description — as a proposal, never applied on its own.
Nothing touches the live store until you approve it. Each applied change — image alt text, product or collection SEO meta, or a URL redirect — snapshots the previous state first, so any change is one click to roll back. Scheduled scans keep the backlog current. And any metric it can’t fetch shows a dash, never a made-up number.
